Every day, hundreds of thousands of planes take off and roughly the same number land. According to statistics, air travel is nearly the safest mode of transportation.

Each year, planes carry about 4 billion people, which is more than half of the planet`s population. But only about a thousand don`t reach their destination. The ratio is very impressive.

In the last six years, there have been only 107 aviation disasters, in which 3,245 people perished, which is less than 1% of all passengers in those years. But it`s worth noting that not every disaster results in fatalities.

On January 14, in the Turkish city of Trabzon, a Pegasus Airlines Boeing 737 rolled off the runway and stopped a few dozen meters from the sea.
So far, it`s unknown what caused this situation, but in any case, it`s great luck that the pilot managed to stop the plane. If it had fallen into the water, according to experts, it would have resulted in numerous casualties. But as it is, no one was hurt.
There were 163 people on board, who were successfully evacuated, but passengers say that panic broke out in the cabin. Moreover, it was so strong that the crew couldn`t control the situation at all.
`We tilted. The nose was down, and the tail of the plane lifted up. There was panic, people were screaming,` passenger Fatma Gordu shared with journalists.
`We could have burned, we could have exploded, we could have fallen into the sea... When I start thinking about it, I feel like I might go crazy,` Yuksel Gordu recounted about the experience.
During the rescue operation, the airport was closed, and an investigation was underway. For now, it`s only reported that there was some incident during landing.
Passengers also said that during the accident, there was a smell of kerosene in the plane`s cabin, which only increased the panic – people were afraid of burning alive or simply exploding.
Very often, such things happen due to various malfunctions or factors that are hard to predict. But pilots are amazingly brave and fearless people; they do everything to save passengers` lives.
As they say, all`s well that ends well. This time, everyone could return home to their families, and no one became another number in the statistics. Of course, there are several interesting questions for the pilots, but that`s the continuation of this story...
