On the night of April 14 to 15, 1912, one of the most massive disasters in the world occurred – the Titanic sank. It seems that over this time we have learned the most detailed accident details and identified all the reasons. And yet, only quite recently, another secret was revealed.

A team of researchers led by Shannon Moloney meticulously studied the Titanic sinking materials over 30 years and came to unexpected conclusions. It turned out that the main cause of the disaster was not the iceberg at all!
In fact, the disaster was predictable in advance. It turns out that before the liner left the shore, something happened that later played the main role during the accident.
When the Titanic left the shipbuilding yard in Belfast, a fire broke out in one of the fuel storage tanks. The captain was well aware of this problem, but he decided to handle it discreetly because the reputation of the most magnificent ship of that time was at stake.
Over several days, the crew independently tried to deal with the fire, but when the Titanic arrived at Southampton port, they moored the liner with the undamaged side to the shore so that passengers would not see the dark and burned spot.
The consequences of the fire are very clearly visible in various photographs. But until now, no one paid attention to what happened because the liner was operating and it seemed that it was fully repaired. However, this event did not go without consequences...
Due to the fire, the temperature inside reached 1000 degrees Celsius! The ship`s metal lost its elasticity and became brittle. Under normal conditions, a collision with an iceberg would not have such fatal consequences, but unfortunately, the impact was exactly at the damaged spot...
”In truth, a whole series of terrible coincidences was to blame for the liner`s sinking: poor visibility, ignoring warnings about icebergs, exceeding speed in a dangerous area, error in maneuvering, unsuccessful collision angle... But the spot traumatized by the fire, where the impact occurred, was the last drop that sank the ship,” explained Shannon Moloney.
