I still remember the times when I didn`t have an automatic washing machine at home. Semi-automatic ones, hand washing – it all wasn`t as convenient and quick as now.

With the purchase of an automatic washing machine, I, like many others, got real satisfaction from laundry washing. And for a couple of years, I enjoyed its flawless operation!

But over time, I started noticing an unpleasant odor from the washing machine drum. Also, it began heating the water much worse, which affected the washing cycle duration and, accordingly, increased electricity consumption.

All of this, of course, worried me, but after researching the problem, I realized – it`s time for cleaning!

How to Clean a Washing Machine

After thoroughly studying the instructions and watching many videos on how to clean an automatic washing machine from dirt, I was convinced that cleaning is necessary for practically all machine elements: from the inside of the drum to the drain filter.

We`ve prepared 5 flawless methods for you, and dirt in the washing machine will no longer be a problem for you. Quick, clean, and very convenient!
1. Machine Door

After washing, not only the laundry remains wet, but also the machine door. Try to always keep the machine open to prevent mold from forming due to increased humidity.
2. Cuff (Rubber Seal) Cleaning

Dirt and mold tend to accumulate in the machine`s rubber seal, so it needs to be cleaned especially carefully. You can do this with any cleaning agent or baking soda.

If too much mold has accumulated in your machine, which also emits an unpleasant smell, you need to use strong-action detergents. However, pay attention that it`s not advisable to use chlorine-containing products too often, as it can cause rubber deformation.
For cleaning, apply a little of the chosen product to a sponge. Carefully pull the rubber towards you and clean the metal part of the body. In the same way, clean the cuff itself. Be careful and don`t pull the rubber too hard to avoid damaging it!
3. Drum Cleaning from Limescale Deposits

You can remove mineral deposits on the heating element and drum with a simple but effective method, and it`s cheap too.
Deposits consist of magnesium and calcium salts, which means you need to act on them with organic or inorganic acids. And such are in every home. Regular vinegar or citric acid will help you.

The simplest way is using citric acid. You`ll need from 1 to 6 packets of citric acid. How much citric acid to add depends on the washing machine`s capacity and the degree of dirtiness.

Add the product to the laundry detergent compartment and turn on the machine in the maximum temperature and duration mode.
4. Dispenser Cleaning

Pull out the dispenser, following the instructions for your washing machine model. Then, get rid of old powder residues with the help of any detergent, then wipe the dispenser dry.
For cleaning rust deposits, use a mixture of vinegar and baking soda. Soak the dispenser in this solution and leave it for 30 minutes, or better for a couple of hours.
5. Drain Pump Cleaning

If the filter is heavily neglected, the machine will sooner or later refuse to drain water, causing it to rise and possibly leak out. Fortunately, cleaning the washing machine filter is very easy.

Open access to the filter. It`s definitely located in the lower part of the body. However, before opening the cover, place a towel on the floor and put a container near the drain to collect water.

Turn the cover counterclockwise and remove all accumulated dirt and debris from the opening: it could be coins, hair, wool, toothpicks, and other small items. Wipe the opening, close it, and put the decorative panel back in place.
Follow these simple recommendations, and your washing machine will not only look like new but also work better, and the laundry after washing will be clean, fresh, and fragrant. I hope these tips are useful to you. May your laundry washing process be easy and comfortable.

Don`t forget to share these tips with your friends; they`ll be grateful for them!
