Everyone has experienced a loss of sensation in their hand or foot at least once, accompanied by a slight tingling or burning feeling. Most often, this happens due to temporary blood circulation disruptions in the limbs as a result of compression of blood vessels and nerve endings. When you start moving or change position, the sensation returns.

However, an uncomfortable sleeping position, unfortunately, is not the only cause of hand tingling. If you notice limb tingling more and more often and it doesn`t go away for a long time, you should start worrying, because tingling can be one of the symptoms of a serious illness.

Causes of hand tingling

1. Cervical osteochondrosis. Any disorders in the cervical spine that cause nerve compression can lead to hand tingling, as well as headaches and coordination problems.

Start monitoring your posture and perform special exercises. It`s better, of course, to see a doctor who will prescribe examinations to determine the pathology.
2. Multiple sclerosis. You can joke about this topic as much as you want, but sclerosis is not just forgetfulness, but a serious neurological disease. Damage to the nerve sheaths in the brain and spinal cord disrupts the transmission of nerve impulses. Sensitivity decreases, and tingling may start in the hands. If other causes of tingling are ruled out, it`s worth seeing a neurologist.
3. Carpal tunnel syndrome is often observed in people whose work involves monotonous hand movements (programmers, seamstresses, musicians).

As a result of repetitive finger movements, the tendons that pass through a narrow channel thicken. The nerve in the channel gets compressed - the person feels numbness and unpleasant tingling in the palm (especially in the mornings). Be sure to see a neurologist, because in advanced stages, this disease can lead to complications up to finger muscle atrophy.
4. Upper extremity vein thrombosis also causes numbness. A blood clot slows down blood flow, thus disrupting the delivery of substances important for maintaining limb functions. Thrombosis causes swelling and other serious complications (gangrene, clot detachment), so the disease absolutely requires diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
5. Anemia and diabetes are often accompanied by circulatory disorders in the limbs and, as a result, numbness.

6. Brachial plexus neuralgia, as well as prolonged inflammation of surrounding tissues, can cause pain syndrome followed by hand tingling.

7. Cerebral circulation disorders (stroke) - the most dangerous cause of hand tingling. If hand tingling is accompanied by leg dysfunction, confusion, headache, speech and vision disorders - you need to call emergency medical help immediately!
We mentioned the main possible causes of hand tingling. If you are constantly bothered by discomfort in your limbs not only after an uncomfortable sleeping position, get examined immediately and consult a doctor. Such symptoms are better not ignored, as they can develop into a serious chronic disease.
