This January, photographer from Sydney James Day was invited to the wedding ceremony of newlyweds Nancy and Charlie McLean. Miss McLean was in her seventh month of pregnancy, and the photos were full of tenderness and love that literally radiated from both newlyweds. The couple was eagerly awaiting their firstborn.
James couldn`t even imagine that just two months later he would have to photograph this couple again. However, this time everything was a bit different...

After a two-month pause, on March 23, James received a phone call. What happened next became an unexpected surprise for James. `Charlie and Nancy McLean called and asked if I could come to the Royal Women`s Hospital. Their baby was not doing well, and they were going to say goodbye to him.` - James recounts.

`I rushed to them and realized that I had to photograph quickly because something truly tragic was happening before my eyes. I have no words to describe that day`s events; it was very emotional.`

James Day spent the whole day with the McLean family, photographing every moment as they said goodbye to their newborn son Edison. In every frame, you can feel the parents` undivided love for their dying son.

Edison was born without any complications, but three days later he was diagnosed with hyperglycemia, a congenital disease. As a result, the baby had to be connected to a ventilator, and only so that the parents could say goodbye to their little one...

The little boy surprised everyone and started breathing on his own again! Thus giving Nancy and Charlie two more days to take the baby to the beach, spend a day at home, and sleep in their bed.

`The little angel left this world at 10:25, on the seventh day after his birth. He was just 3 hours short of a full 7 days lived.` - says Charlie McLean.

`It`s hard to find anything positive in losing a son, but Edison gave us all a great life lesson. Appreciate every moment you spend with your loved ones, love them as if these moments were the last. Don`t wait for special occasions to do it!`

`Edison gave us three extra days beyond what the doctors promised us. During this time, we managed to say goodbye to him; he stayed in our arms. We will never forget our little one!`

James Day posted the emotional and heart-wrenching photos on his Facebook profile. `I usually share the most important life moments, but as it turns out, the most important life events are not always the happiest. These events changed my life.` - added James.

These photographs are viewed by thousands of people daily, and they leave words of support in the comments. Currently, the McLeans and their friends are collecting funds to support parents in similar life situations.

`We are collecting donations to support the grandparents` program, thanks to which Edison came into the world. The people who work in the intensive care unit regularly supported us morally. They did everything in their power to save our baby when he was diagnosed with this terrible disease. We thank them for the opportunity to say goodbye to our little one.`
