Nowadays, most women get their manicures done at salons. With the advent of new, long-lasting polishes and other products, it`s convenient and saves a lot of time. However, manicures don`t always have positive effects on your nails and overall health. Those who have been doing it for a couple of years understand us.
Continuation of the article
We understand that it`s hard for busy ladies to give up salon services, as doing your nails at home takes a very long time. Even just painting your nails can`t be done in five minutes.
There are also dangers of encountering problems like nail breakage, and that`s not the worst. To help you avoid the consequences of manicures and nail problems in general, we`ll introduce you to how to avoid such issues.
1. Fungus
There`s always a risk of getting a fungal infection. We don`t doubt that your technician is very tidy. But make sure they also disinfect the brushes. It`s especially important that pedicure brushes are disposable. Also, observe that they clean them with antiseptics.
2. Gel polish leads to serious illnesses
Gel polish itself doesn`t pose a threat. With its help, nails become beautiful, strong, and grow well. The harmful part is the UV lamp. The radiation from it isn`t high, but it has a cumulative effect. The skin on your fingers ages faster and can lead to cancer. Therefore, it`s recommended to do gel nails at least with a two-week interval.
3. Nail weakening
Also, make sure the polish is removed without pressure on the nail and without aggressive filing. Otherwise, after a year, they will hurt and split. Acetone dries out keratin, and dry keratin crumbles, becomes brittle. In the end, the nail breaks.
4. Spots
If the technician skimps on the base coat, pigment spots will appear on the nail over time. The base is designed to smooth the nail and extend the polish`s life, but also to protect the nail. The ideal option is a double base. Ask for it when getting your nails done.
5. Rough nails
Another issue you might encounter is roughness. If you keep nail polish remover on longer, it not only destroys keratin on the nails but also makes them rough. Usually, nail remover shouldn`t be left on for more than 10 minutes. But if the manicurist has gone for coffee and you`re sitting there for 20 minutes with it, change your technician.
6. Allergy
There`s a small percentage of women who develop an allergy to acrylic, polish, or other products over time. As soon as you see any redness or other body reaction to a specific product, inform your technician.
7. `Toxic trio`
Some cheap gel polish brands contain very dangerous substances. So, ask your technician or read the label yourself to see if the polish contains components like dibutyl phthalate, toluene, or formaldehyde. Or simply ask about the toxic trio - professionals always know what it`s about. These chemicals can cause asthma, various defects, and even cancer.
8. Frequent manicures
Very often, women forget to let their nails rest. You shouldn`t do gel nails all the time. Allow your nails to rest for at least a month every six months. That way, the nails can recover.
9. Hidden infections
Under a thick layer of polish, you might not notice an infection or defects in time. Also, keep in mind, if you`ve bruised your nail, a spot has appeared, or it`s cracked, don`t apply polish on top. Wait until the nails return to normal.
10. Value
When choosing a technician, take it seriously. Keep in mind that a good technician can be expensive because quality tools and products cost a lot. A good manicurist who respects clients and won`t destroy your nails can`t undervalue their talent.
We wish you to find your ideal technician and never know about nail problems. Tell us in the comments whether you prefer salon services or love painting your nails at home. Also, share this article further.
