Scientists name the main cause of early dementia development

You probably know that an adult human body consists of 65-70% water. But did you know that our brain cells can contain more than 80% water? In the human body, it is distributed so that one part is inside the cells, and the other part is in the extracellular space. This gives reason to believe that the main nourishment for our brains is water.

Whether this is true and what consequences insufficient water consumption causes, we will tell you about it.

Benefits of water for the body

The brain is one of the most amazing and skillfully created organs in the human body. Terabytes of information flow through it from around us. Thanks to its continuous operation, we perceive this information, think, make decisions, and act. Just imagine how much energy the brain needs for that.
But our brains also need water. It is an irreplaceable element in the energy production process, nerve impulse transmission, and information processing. The optimal functioning of the entire body, its internal organs, muscles, and circulatory system depends on water consumption. However, the health and activity of the brain depend on the water content in our body.

This organ reacts extremely sharply to a lack of fluid in the body. It requires a constant supply of water, and even a 1% loss already detrimentally affects brain function.
Water is a solvent for oxygen and glucose, which are necessary for energy production. According to Dr. Corin Allen, brain cells need twice as much energy as any other cells in the human body.
From this, it follows that a sufficient amount of water in the body promotes memory improvement and overall brain function: you will be able to think faster, concentrate better, and solve various tasks more creatively.
If you consume less water than your body needs, dehydration occurs. And the brain suffers from it first and foremost. Brain activity slows down, and symptoms such as a feeling of heaviness in the head, increased fatigue, irritability, decreased concentration, and even depression may appear.
Scientists have proven that even 1% dehydration causes a 5% decrease in thinking abilities. In cases of significant water deficiency, symptoms only intensify. If the water shortage is prolonged, brain cells begin to shrink. This process is observed in elderly people who have consumed little water for many years.
It is brain dehydration that becomes one of the causes of early dementia, Alzheimer`s disease, Parkinson`s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and other brain pathologies. It may sound a bit exaggerated, but an extra glass of water can protect you from all these terrible diseases or at least reduce the risk of their development.
Chronic water deficiency can cause diseases such as obesity, cancer, and depression. Dr. Allen claims that dehydration worsens disorders such as attention deficit, panic attacks, and depression. Drinking water is an excellent way to prevent diseases.
Another interesting study in this area was conducted by scientists from the University of East London. They selected 34 people, including men and women, and offered them to take a mental ability test. The test was performed twice: right after breakfast (cereal bar), and the second time after they drank a bottle of water with the bar.
Before the experiment began, all participants were asked if they wanted to drink. Those who did not want to showed the same results, regardless of the breakfast composition. But those who were thirsty improved their repeat test results by 14% after drinking water.
Scientists concluded that water can free up those parts of the brain that were involved in the body`s `informing` process about water deficiency. They say: `Drinking water promotes the release of attention resources that were previously occupied with processing information about the feeling of thirst.`
In this way, it can be considered that just one glass of water will improve brain function and help you cope better with the task at hand. Consume a sufficient amount of water, but do not overdo it. Learn how to drink water properly so as not to harm the body.

Next time you are racking your brain over a complex task, simply drink a glass of water. That`s exactly what the brain needs!
