There are places in the world where genetic diseases have become the norm and surprise no one. They even become part of the culture. Some of these places were created artificially. You ask why? We`ll tell you right now...

From this disease, a person`s skin becomes thin and covered with blisters. Usually, 1 case per million is recorded. Experts believe that such a high incidence rate is explained by a damaged gene introduced to this village by the first families. This became clear only after farmers started forming intermarriages – related marriages. Now, every fourth resident in the village is sick. This is a problem because it`s a farming village and people have no opportunity to work in the city. ![]() Photo: ofigenno.cc 2. Kalachi and Krasnogorsk In March 2013, residents of these two Kazakh villages began falling asleep literally in the middle of the street. This could happen at any moment, completely unexpectedly. This phenomenon affected everyone – from small children and elderly people to even cats and dogs. In 2015, after analyzing medical indicators, scientists determined that the sleep attacks were caused by high levels of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons in the air. This was attributed to uranium mines located nearby. ![]() Photo: ofigenno.cc 3. Wewelsfleth A small German village is home to 1500 residents, and almost every family has someone suffering from cancer. The residents of Wewelsfleth village have a 50% higher chance of getting this disease than in the rest of the world. The reason has not yet been determined. Some people blame three nearby nuclear power plants, but investigations have not proven it, and yet currently, out of 1500 residents in the village, 150 are sick with cancer. ![]() Photo: ofigenno.cc 4. Hogewey A group of Amsterdam medical workers has created an entire village where patients with dementia can live out the rest of their lives in normal conditions. Hogewey – a village where every patient is demented. Patients live a normal life, but the media say that there are shop, cinema, and restaurant workers. Patients` families and friends can visit them at any convenient time, but they themselves are not allowed to leave the territory. It is closed and fenced off. ![]() Photo: ofigenno.cc 5. Yangsi A separate village in China`s Sichuan province, which has earned the strange nickname `Dwarf Village`. Approximately 40% of the residents (36 out of 80 people) are shorter than 120 cm. As a rule, a person has 1 chance in 20,000 of surviving with growth retardation, which means that statistically, such a number of dwarfs in Yangsi village is impossible. The reasons why the village residents do not grow are unclear; investigations to this day have yielded no results. ![]() Photo: ofigenno.cc 6. Icaria On the Greek island of Icaria, only every third person lives to 90 years old, the rest live to 100! The residents of this island are `cut off` from the rest of the world, and this has led to a unique lifestyle: they sleep after lunch, work for pleasure, love fun gatherings, and seek positive emotions in everything. Another important reason why they live so long is their diet: no refined sugar and unhealthy food, only beans and local vegetables. Icaria is known as one of the five world`s `blue zones` – areas where people live longer than elsewhere in the world. Besides that, they are healthier here than anywhere else. ![]() Photo: ofigenno.cc 7. Velyka Kopanya In western Ukraine, there is a village famous as the `twin capital`. Among the local residents, there is a unusually high percentage – 61 twin pairs per 4000 residents. No one knows what causes this anomaly. ![]() Photo: ofigenno.cc 8. Bengkala In northern Indonesia, in a small village, 42 out of 3000 residents are deaf from birth. This unusually high deafness rate (5 times higher than elsewhere in the world) is explained by a recessive gene – DFNB3, which has been passed down in this village for seven generations. Deafness is so widespread in this village that it is not considered a defect. All residents know the ancient sign language `Kata Kolok`. The village residents are convinced that deafness is the result of a curse; they know nothing about the gene. ![]() Photo: ofigenno.cc 9. Antioquia Throughout the world, children generally take care of their parents when Alzheimer`s disease begins to torment them in old age. But in northwestern Colombia, people act completely the opposite. In Antioquia, more than 5000 people suffer from early onset of this disease. This happens due to marriages between relatives, which have been contracted for several centuries, resulting in the spread of a damaged gene. In the 1970s-80s of the 20th century, a situation occurred here where elderly parents took care of their children who were already born with Alzheimer`s disease. ![]() Photo: ofigenno.cc 10. Salinas Usually, when a child is born, the doctor immediately determines whether it is a boy or a girl based on the genitals. But in a remote village in the Dominican Republic, some boys do not grow penises. Until they reach puberty. Parents raise them as the most ordinary girls. This phenomenon is caused by a rare genetic disease triggered by a deficiency of an enzyme in the body. This leads to delayed testosterone release in the body. In Salinas, such boys are called `guevedoces`, which translates to `penis at 12 years`. ![]() As you can see, the main thing in human life is health. It is very important that children are healthy and normal; your future depends on it. Share this article with others so they too can learn about these places and their residents. Liked what you saw?
