Harmful houseplants

1. Cyclamen

Many believe that this cute and beautiful plant can ward off bad dreams and fears. This is a wonderful plant, but you shouldn`t forget about its poisonous properties. The most poisonous parts are the seeds and roots; their juice can cause skin irritation and inflammation.

We don`t recommend trying this notable recipe, which is quite popular in folk medicine: dripping cyclamen juice for sinusitis. It can burn the mucous membrane, cause a fever, sore throat, and difficulty breathing. It really won`t help you treat sinusitis.
2. Dieffenbachia

The fact that this plant cleans the air well and improves its chemical composition is hard to dispute. Just don`t place it in the bedroom, especially not in a child`s room. The juice contained in the stems is very poisonous. If it gets on the skin, it can cause burns, and if it enters the body, it will provoke serious digestive tract and respiratory disorders.
3. Cacti

This is one of the trickiest houseplants. Even a small-sized plant contains more than 120 alkaloids in its cell sap, which negatively affect the human nervous system. The hallucinogens in cacti can cause paralysis of the nervous system, with an effect similar to LSD.
4. Jade plant

This plant is in every other home because it`s believed to bring wealth and success into the house. No wonder it`s called the money tree. You have to be careful with it because this plant`s sap contains arsenic. The amount isn`t large, but for pets who like to nibble on houseplants, it`s quite enough to get poisoned.
5. Hydrangea

Hydrangea flowers have an indescribable appeal and even a kind of magic, but all other parts of the plant contain poison. Touching the plant isn`t dangerous, but if the plant`s sap enters the body, it can cause excessive sweating, stomach pain, itching, nausea, and impair blood circulation.
6. Geranium

Yes, that`s right, the so useful and wonderful geranium can hide dangers. Geranium is a great antiseptic, helps relieve stress, and alleviates pain in cases of angina. However, the scent of geranium can provoke a strong asthma attack and cause an allergic reaction. Geranium is contraindicated for pregnant women, people with low blood sugar, and children.
7. Poinsettia

It`s not safe to keep the popular `Christmas star` in the house either, because its sap contains alkaloids. Neither the flowers nor the leaves are dangerous by themselves; the danger is the whitish sap, as with all plants from the milkweed family. Such a colorful plant attracts children and animals, and they happily put it in their mouths, which can lead to unpredictable consequences.
You really shouldn`t grow these plants at home, no matter how beautiful they are. Beauty isn`t worth it. Before buying any exotic plant, be sure to research information about it to make sure it`s not dangerous.
