Almost every child in the USSR era felt fear of breaking the indisputable law - going to bed after 9 PM. But did our parents act correctly? And does a little one need such a strict bedtime regime? These questions were answered by an elementary school teacher as well as child rearing expert Stacy Carlsen.

The educator believes that the main factors affecting a childs bedtime are age and waking time. Based on this data Stacy compiled a table that parents around the world now use.
What time to go to bed

Many moms and dads were surprised by the fact that a healthy child needs to sleep so long. But after trying this method parents of little restless spirits concluded that thanks to this table they managed to adjust not only the childrens schedule but also their own.
They had to organize their affairs in such a way as to spend more time with the child before bedtime. According to this table children from 3 to 6 years old should sleep no less than 10-12 hours a day. Older children are offered a shorter sleep regime - 1 hour less.
Many adults cannot even imagine how important full rest in sleep is for a child. The consequences of sleep deprivation in children are much more serious than in adults. Most often insufficient sleep in adults weakens the bodys protective functions and causes delayed reaction to surrounding factors which negatively affects their work capacity.
Children experience more serious consequences because sleep directly participates in the childs growth process. Almost 80% of growth hormone is produced in the first phase of sleep. A deficit of full rest can become the main reason for stunted growth and slowed child development.
Symptoms of sleep deprivation in children are most often similar: children become unbalanced excited forgetful and less critical of their actions. They often rub their eyes as if dust has gotten in. Another consequence of sleep deprivation is reduced ability to adapt to stress.
But these changes can be prevented by timely introducing a proper sleep regime. Sleep specialists recommend putting the child to bed at the same time inventing a bedtime ritual (reading or listening to audiobooks) ventilating the room before bedtime and removing all objects that can make noise.
