1. Women`s and men`s brains work differently.
According to a study by the University of Pennsylvania, the basic neural array in women`s brains connects the left and right hemispheres. But a study published in the journal `Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences` proves that men`s brains, on the contrary, have a strong connection between the frontal and occipital regions.
This means that usually men`s brains are better at perceiving and coordinating actions, while women`s brains handle social functions and memory, making them suitable for multitasking.
2. Women live longer than men.
Steven Austad, head of the biology department at the University of Alabama and an international aging expert, describes women as `healthier.`
Newborn boys and girls who are cared for equally have different survival rates - premature deaths are 10% more common in boys. Katherine Sandberg, director of the Georgetown University Research Center on Gender Differences in Health, Aging, and Disease, says:
`Men have cardiovascular diseases much more often than women. Hypertension occurs more often in men than in women. And the degree and speed of disease progression differ.`
3. Women see things differently.
A study by Brooklyn College psychology professor Israel Abramov showed that `men need a slightly longer wavelength than women to see the same color.` Longer wavelengths are associated with warmer colors, so orange may appear more red to men than to women. In addition, grass always seems greener to women than to men, who see green objects in a yellower tone.
4. The effect of oxytocin on women and men is different.
Oxytocin, known as the `love hormone,` has different effects on women and men.
Oxytocin is a powerful hormone that acts as a neurotransmitter in the brain and is especially important for women because it maintains maternal instinct and helps form a bond with the newborn. It causes contractions during labor and is responsible for recovery after childbirth.
5. Women`s and men`s brains have different sizes.
A group of researchers led by psychologist Stuart Ritchie at the University of Edinburgh found that women on average have a thicker cerebral cortex (the outer layer responsible for consciousness) than men. A thicker cortex provides better results for women in cognitive and general intelligence tests.
On the other hand, men have larger brain volume. But when researchers compared specific indicators, it was found that there are only 14 areas where men are superior, but 10 areas where women lead.
6. Women get intoxicated faster.
Researchers from the University of Trieste School of Medicine in Italy and the Bronx Veterans Affairs Medical Center found that women`s stomachs produce less dehydrogenase, an enzyme that breaks down alcohol before it enters the bloodstream. Therefore, women get drunk faster than men.
7. Women suffer from neck pain more often.
In a study by Dr. Meda Raghavendra and Dr. Holtman from Loyola University`s Joseph Medical Center, it was proven that women suffer from neck pain more often than men.
Degenerative-dystrophic disease of the cervical discs is the cause of this pain. Other symptoms include a stiff neck, burning, stabbing, or numbness. Pain occurs more often if a person stands a lot or moves their head.
8. Women suffer from insomnia more often.
Researchers from the SleepGP Coolangatta Sleep Research Center in Australia found that women have more disturbances related to daytime sleepiness (49% of women and 36.9% of men).
Additionally, studies show that women experience severe fatigue and depression more, problems with concentration and memory, and have difficulty falling asleep at night. Did you know this? Was it a surprise?
