There`s so much talk about the harm of alcohol and healthy lifestyles. But no matter how much we talk, people consume spirits: some a couple times a year, some a couple times a week. Few know that often the harm to health comes not only from alcohol but also from the snacks eaten with it.
Continuation of the article
If it`s clear what to snack on with wine and beer, it`s more complicated with stronger drinks. You might be surprised, but among the products doctors don`t recommend snacking on with spirits are many of our usual snacks.
Our editors will tell you what not to snack on and what to snack on with vodka and similar drinks.
SNACKS WITH VODKA
What not to snack on when drinking strong alcohol.
1. Pastries
Cakes and buns are enemies of strong alcohol. Yes, vodka isn`t usually snacked on with them, but rum or sambuca is. First, the body will break down the fatty sweet cakes because glucose is more important to it. It will process the alcohol afterward. As a result, insulin enters the blood - quick intoxication and severe hangover, because the body has managed to get poisoned by alcohol toxins.
2. Chocolate
As one joke says: ”The candy was unnecessary”. In our society, it`s even customary to gift cognac with chocolate. Chocolate with alcohol strongly affects the pancreas. Spirits already burden the pancreas, causing temporary spasms, and chocolate can block some ducts. This leads to inflammation and sometimes even pancreatitis.
3. Fresh tomatoes
Remember: strong drinks don`t go with tomatoes, especially vodka. They only enhance each other`s negative properties. So don`t be surprised if midway through the banquet your stomach bloats, because thanks to alcohol, the effect of tomato organic acids on the stomach lining is greatly intensified.
4. Fatty meat
Besides the fact that fried fatty food already negatively affects the liver and pancreas, you`re adding alcohol. A couple of such sessions, and you`re a patient at the nearest clinic.
5. Spicy snacks
We`ll have to disappoint fans of Mexican cuisine: spicy snacks only intensify alcohol`s effect. Therefore, spicy food with tequila or vodka not only promotes quick intoxication but can also cause burns to the esophagus or stomach lining.
6. Pickled cucumbers
Look, this point really surprises. But note that salted cucumbers are allowed. They maintain water-salt balance, but pickled cucumbers add extra load on the liver and kidneys, which are already burdened by alcohol.
7. Grapes, watermelon, melon
Fruits pair great with alcohol up to 30 degrees. That`s why they`re often served with wine. But similar to pastries, the body will first process them, and only then the strong alcohol. So you`ll get drunk quickly.
Melon with watermelon together with strong alcohol is real poison for your intestines. These products, under alcohol`s influence, start fermenting right in the intestines.
Don`t despair, because many products pair excellently with strong alcohol. First, fermented foods: cucumbers, tomatoes, cabbage. The latter especially go well with vodka. So in the evening, the body needs sauerkraut as a snack, and in the morning its juice as a healing balm.
Salads and dishes with boiled potatoes (herring under a fur coat, Olivier salad) are also great, as it`s simply an excellent absorbent. You can also snack on vodka with lean roasted or boiled meat. Seafood is also excellent.
EDITOR`S RECOMMENDATION
If during the banquet you want to last all night, don`t combine alcohol with these products, and also avoid carbonated drinks. Even better, drink moderately or limit to a glass of wine, and in the morning severe hangover won`t visit you. The advice is banal, but many forget about moderation.
