In vacuum there is no sound, so spaceships explode without noise. Standing right next to lava is dangerous. Walking slowly in the background of an explosion won`t work – the blast wave will knock you off your feet. Nowadays many know that these are not just clichés, but also, it`s not true, only movies — not only fantastic ones — lie about a huge number of other things, sometimes obvious, sometimes not very.

1. Cars can withstand anything

The `Fast and Furious` movie series lies: racing cars are more complex and advanced than regular ones, but also, their use requires more careful handling precisely because of these improvements, they can`t always withstand driving on ordinary streets. For example, in city circuits `Formula-1` carefully fixes all manhole covers, but the pressure under the cars sometimes tears them off, and then the car usually can`t continue due to some damage.

Moreover, regular cars are not suitable for effective long jumps, as their suspension and tires are not designed for such loads and they will immediately break down.

2. `You have the right to 1 phone call`

The classic phrase that police officers say after reading the Miranda rights to the detainee, that is, informing about the right to remain silent and to an attorney, as well as warning that everything said can be used in court. But here it`s not that simple. Firstly, the right to 1 call exists only in the USA, but in the UK it`s not accepted. Secondly, each state`s legislation regulates this issue. For example, in California you can make 3 calls.

3. Falling into trash is not dangerous

In many movies, you can see how a character, escaping pursuit, jumps from the third floor onto garbage bags or just garbage, and then briskly jumps out of the container and runs away. However, even diving into water or hay is dangerous from such a height, not to mention black plastic bags, in which household waste is usually thrown, including glass bottles, burnt bulbs and other hard traumatic objects, from which the thin polyethylene will not protect in any way. Ace Ventura, Neo and many other heroes would actually have broken something and gotten smeared from head to toe.

4. Safe knockouts from the first punch

In movies, you often see how a character sends opponents into a deep knockout with one punch, but they come to after a few minutes and continue the pursuit as if nothing happened. Sometimes, if the hero needs more time, the enemy lies unconscious for hours. But there are some unnatural moments here.

• To knock down a prepared person, one blow is very rarely enough. A realistic scenario requires many precise punches with great force.

• Punches with bare fists are dangerous, you can break your wrist or fingers. That`s why professional athletes who participate in fights always protect their hands (for example, wear gloves).

• A knockout is not necessarily fainting, it`s a state in which the opponent can no longer fight. Loss of consciousness, if it occurs, lasts a few seconds. But even without it, the person will be disoriented for some time, it will be difficult for them to get up, and even more so, to run and fight again.

• Moreover, no matter where the punch hits, it will cause serious injury anyway, and the person will need medical help to survive and not become disabled.

• Prolonged loss of consciousness won`t allow fighting, because most likely it will lead to death.

5. Passengers in the back seat sit all over

Most people, when alone in the back seat of a car, prefer to sit behind one of the front seats. But a person watching a movie can easily get distracted, and then not understand who is talking to the driver, so in cinema, characters sitting in the back seat choose the middle spot.

6. `Cover for me`

One of the most favorite screenwriter tricks – when a character leaves their partner: `Cover for me,` and in the middle of the workday decides to handle personal matters. But in most cases, the character`s job is such that it can`t be covered.

After all, not for nothing does one waiter serve a strictly defined number of tables, not twice as many. In life, such a runaway would quickly add finding a new job to their list of problems.

7. There are no clumsy musicians

Any teenager just needs to strum the guitar for a couple of months after school, and they start playing like a professional. There is also no bad singing, everyone sings flawlessly and performs without problems after 2-3 attempts.

But anyone who attended music school or at least sang in the shower knows that this is not true. The voice needs to be trained, and it`s a long process that requires serious work. Playing musical instruments even more so.

8. Lighting in the spacesuit

Viewers need to know what`s hidden in the spacesuit, but in life, an astronaut needs to look outside, which means a bulb shining right in the face only interferes. On the same principle, when you look out onto the street at night, you turn off the light in the room and let your eyes adjust to the darkness.

9. Call tracing

Police officers tensely watch the person trying to talk longer with the criminal to buy time. Time is needed to find out where the call is coming from and to detain the villain.

However, law enforcement agencies have long been able to trace any call automatically, just by picking up the phone. This applies to both mobile phones and landlines.

10. You can lift an adult by the neck with one hand

It`s very impressive, no one argues with that. But an adult`s weight is usually too great to lift a person with one hand. Even if super strength allows it, a person can`t hold another person, because the neck will break under the body`s weight.

11. You can hang on with fingers as long as you want

It`s impossible for the same reason that fingers won`t withstand such heavy weight, so they will tire very quickly, and the person will fall. Especially if hanging with one hand. Even more so if you have to hold another person.

12. Forging swords is easy

Just melt the metal, pour it into a stone mold, dip it in water once and hit it with a hammer several times. A sword capable of cutting through any armor is ready. In fact, in these scenes they usually show aluminum, because it gives an effective orange color at a relatively low melting temperature. It`s impossible to forge a real blade capable of withstanding a full fight from a pre-processed metal bar.

13. Keeping your finger on the gun trigger all the time is safe

Dangerous. One of the first rules taught to beginners interested in shooting states that the finger should be on the gun trigger only if you really intend to pull it, and not earlier. And, of course, most characters who make this mistake are considered experts in weapon use.

15. Ninjas don`t wear black

The black costume was invented in puppet theater.

Real ninjas preferred ordinary clothes that allowed them to blend in with the crowd, but for special tasks they wore reddish-brown, ash-colored, yellowish-brown or dark gray tone suits, which camouflage better in the dark.

16. All main characters are tall

However, Tom Cruise`s height is 170 cm. Just like James McAvoy and Al Pacino. Daniel Radcliffe is also short - 165 cm. Hollywood so skillfully masks actors` short stature that Robert Downey Jr., who is 9 cm shorter than Chris Evans and 14 cm shorter than Chris Hemsworth, often looks in the frame as if he were the same height as them.
