All the worlds music lovers are rejoicing in anticipation of the 61st `Eurovision` contest as hospitable Sweden welcomes guests and participants. The organizers are variously engaging viewers for this event. Among other events particularly interesting is the exhibition of the contest participants stage costumes which was opened in Stockholm.

ABBA, Sweden (1974)
It can be said that the group ABBA completely changed the `Eurovision` format. The legendary quartets performance showed that the stage image is just as important as the performers vocal abilities. The costumes in which the Swedes appeared on stage were fashionable for many years.
Bucks Fizz, United Kingdom (1981)
At first glance the quartet from the Misty Albion with their costumes in the full rainbow color spectrum copied the style of the group ABBA. However the young people from Bucks Fizz managed to surpass their predecessors thanks to a perfectly organized show. Particularly memorable was the trick with the clothing transformation. Initially the girls appeared on stage in long outfits but during the performance the guys tore off their skirts revealing shorter skirts underneath.
Celine Dion, Switzerland (1988)
In the late 80s `Eurovision` participants emphasized the entertainment component. However the Canadian Celine Dion who represented Switzerland in the contest decided to take a risk and go against the flow and it brought her victory. With the singers light hand strict dress-suits experienced great popularity and it can be said that a revolution occurred in the world of evening dresses.
Barbara Dex, Netherlands (1993)
The Dutch singer Barbara Dex is known for the fact that an award for the most tasteless costume was named after her. Aesthetes openly mocked the semi-transparent blouse which the singer sewed herself. Moreover Barbaras hairstyle was outdated and did not adorn the girl at all.
Dana International, Israel (1998)
Over time the audience was spoiled with stylish outfits and surprising the viewer became increasingly difficult each year. At the end of the millennium Israel used heavy artillery and sent a transsexual singer Dana International to the contest. The divas scandalous image was emphasized by a dress adorned with multicolored feathers.
Lordi, Finland (2006)
Perhaps the most controversial stage costumes were those of the Finnish group Lordi. The monster images truly shocked the audience. But it must be admitted that the Finns performance turned out bright and stylish. It was impossible to be indifferent to them you either adored them or hated them. In the end there were more admirers and Lordi won `Eurovision`.
Verka Serduchka, Ukraine (2007)
Actor and showman Andrey Danilko is associated with the comedic character Verka Serduchka. Starting with a simple train attendant image Verka gradually transformed into a pop diva. In the continents main song contest Serduchka appeared as a star in every sense of the word. The shiny costume drew attention however it was not enough to get first place.
Ani Lorak, Ukraine (2008)
The Ukrainian singer Ani Loraks dress was discussed in the country for a long time. The residents were shocked by the price of this outfit. The masterpiece by the famous designer Roberto Cavalli cost 200000 US dollars. However the dress was very effective and is rightfully considered one of the best `Eurovision` stage costumes.
Dima Bilan, Russia (2006, 2008)
While most contestants competed among themselves for the most original costume Dima Bilan decided to act differently. His stage costumes stood out for their simplicity. It seemed that the singer came on stage in what he wore from the street. Such behavior only accentuated the singers natural charisma and ultimately helped him take the highest pedestal step.
Alex Christensen and Oscar Loya, Germany (2009)
The male duo from Germany would hardly be remembered by the audience as their only bright clothing item was shiny pants. The performance was saved by the famous model Dita von Teese who walked the stage in a provocative outfit. The tight bodysuit advantageously highlighted her phenomenally slim waist and other assets. However the TV operators considered this outfit too revealing so Dita practically did not appear in the frame. Thus the Germans low 20th place can be partially explained.
Gipsy.cz, Czech Republic (2009)
The Czech group Gipsy.cz whose members emphasized their Gypsy nationality managed to stay in the memory of the contests fans for a long time. The soloist appeared on stage as Super Gypsy! Of course they managed to shock the audience with such an act but it caused only disgust not sympathy. The group crashed out in the semi-final stage. The guys took last place moreover without earning a single point.
Buranovskiye Babushki, Russia (2012)
Ethnic motifs are often in the costumes of `Eurovision` contestants but the image that remained in memory was that of `Buranovskiye Babushki`. The residents of Udmurtia made millions of viewers from all over Europe fall in love with them ultimately taking an honorable second place.
Aliona Moon, Moldova (2013)
Little Moldova regularly manages to create outstanding shows and surprise viewers with artists costumes. Thus Aliona Moon surprised everyone with her 5-meter-long dress which became a kind of screen. The singer herself was lifted by a hidden lifting device during the performance while 3D images were projected onto her outfit at the same time. Although Aliona took a modest 11th place her costume inspired Jennifer Lopez who recently performed in a `living` dress.
Emma Marrone, Italy (2014)
Emma managed to enter the contests history thanks to a rather dubious achievement. She got 21st place which became Italys worst result in the entire history of `Eurovision` participation. However the singer managed to get her minute of fame thanks to a very strange outfit namely gold-colored panties that were visible from under the dress throughout the performance.
Conchita Wurst, Austria (2014)
Despite the scandalous image of a woman with a beard Conchita Wurst can be considered an example of elegance. After the flashy outfits of Dana International and Verka Serduchka the gold-white dress of the Austrian performer seems the pinnacle of style. If it werent for the beard....
